    I decided to play through from mission to mission for story reasons first, and now I'm kinda wondering what I should be doing, in terms of unlocking certain things and how the escalations work/different contracts for the levels.

    Imagine if you had to infiltrate a port and get onto a ship before it leaves, the ship would be constantly moving and you would need to take out the target before the ship gets to its destination. Maybe it could have a nuke on it and you need to kill the people with the launch keys and stop the nuke from launching.
